Royal Oak, MI — Troy United hit the road Friday night and came away with a hard-earned 4–2 win against the M-1 Griffins. Senior defenseman Will Smith (Troy High School) opened the scoring with his first goal of the season, floating a well-placed shot from the blue line as his teammates provided traffic in front of the net. Alternate captain Ben Dumas (Athens High School) added to the lead late in the first period, snapping a shot into the top corner to put Troy United up 2–0. In the second period, after both teams traded penalties, alternate captain Kaiser Ascencio (AHS) buried a slick setup from Breiden Blaeske (AHS) and Joey Clark (THS), extending the lead to 3–0. Early in the third, Ascencio struck again, capitalizing on a two-on-zero breakaway to make it 4–0. The Griffins responded midway through the period, scoring on a power play before adding a second goal less than a minute later to narrow the margin. Troy United weathered a late penalty kill and closed out the game with disciplined defense to secure the victory. The boys return to home ice tonight (Saturday, Dec 6th) at 5:15 PM to take on the North Oakland Eagles in a key league matchup. Story by: Jason Clark Photo credit: Shannon Blaeske
