Farmington Hills, MI — Troy United earned a 5–1 victory over the Farmington United Griffins on Wednesday night in an OAA league matchup, extending its unbeaten run in the OAA White Division. Farmington United did an excellent job throughout the night bottling up the crease and limiting Troy United’s scoring chances. The Griffins struck first early in the second period to take a 1–0 lead. Troy United finally broke through late in the second period when Breiden Blaeske (Athens High School) tied the game after Quentin Gatto (Troy High School) carried the puck up ice and set up the play. Moments later, alternate captain Ben Dumas (AHS) found the top corner to give TU a 2–1 advantage. Senior defenseman Lucas Giorio (Troy High School) added a momentum-shifting goal in the final seconds of the second frame, slipping a shot through the five-hole to send Troy United into the intermission up 3–1. Farmington sophomore goaltender Billy Oldham continued to turn away quality chances in the third period until alternate captain Kaiser Ascencio (AHS) broke through with a shorthanded goal. Captain Joey Clark sealed the victory late with a breakaway goal, closing out the 5–1 final. The win improves Troy United to 5–0 in OAA White Division play, putting the team alone atop the standings. Troy United returns home over the holiday break, hosting the M-1 Griffins on Saturday, December 27th at 5:15 PM. Story by: Jason Clark Photo credit: Shannon Blaeske
