Bloomfield Township, MI — Troy United remained on top of the OAA White Division Thursday night, earning a come-from-behind league victory on the road against the North Oakland Eagles. North Oakland struck first in the opening period, taking a 1–0 lead. Troy United responded in the second period when junior Kaiser Ascencio (Athens High School) carried the puck into the offensive zone and fed Alex Lowry (AHS) at the doorstep to tie the game at 1–1. The Eagles regained the lead later in the period with a power-play goal, sending Troy United into the second intermission trailing 2–1. North Oakland continued to frustrate Troy United throughout much of the third period, but alternate captain Ascencio once again delivered, scoring a shorthanded goal to knot the game at 2–2. With just under five minutes remaining, senior defenseman Will Smith (Troy High School) fired a shot from the blue line that found its way through traffic and into the net, giving Troy United its first lead of the night and sealing the 3–2 victory. Troy United returns to home ice on Saturday, January 10th at 5:15 PM, when they host Riverview Cabrini. Story by: Jason Clark Photo credit: Shannon Blaeske
